Na stanowisko tym pozostawał do 1805, kiedy został przeniesiony do Krakowa. Wydał dzieło Neueste physikalisch-politische Reisen (Nürnberg 1790-96), z mapą Tatr, w którym przedstawił pierwsze analizy chemiczne wielu źródeł mineralnych znajdujących się w Karpatach. Pisał też o złożach soli w Wieliczce i Bochni w pracy De salinis in Dacia et Sarmatia montibus (Getynga 1794). Stworzył we Lwowie zbiór mineralogiczny, który w 1810 został zakupiony przez Uniwersytet Jagielloński (K. Maślankiewicz, PSB IX 221-223).&#13;
